Albedo

Is the measure of sun reflection of a surface material and measured on a scale of 0 (black body) to 1 (white body).

Albedo is also referred to as solar reflectance, where light-colored surfaces reflect light having a high albedo and darker surfaces absorb sunlight and have a low albedo.

Dark surfaces that absorb light with low albedo can contribute to the Urban Heat Island Effect and raising the average surrounding temperature. Hence urban heat island environments like dense cities are forced to increase the energy demand for cooling.
