Renewable energy

    « Back to Glossary Index

Energy replenished from natural resources on a human timescale, like sunlight, wind, hydro, biomass and geothermal.

Contrast to fossil fuels, which are concentrated in a limited number of countries with a slow recharge rate. Most of the renewable energy technologies provide electricity, often includes further electrification. Can be converted to heat, mechanical energy with high efficiency, and is clean at the point of consumption with neutral carbon, unlike fossil fuels.
