WHAT IS LEED AP ID+C?
LEED AP ID+C (LEED Accredited Professional, Interior Design and Construction) is the LEED credential for professionals who deliver green interior projects. It shows you know the LEED ID+C rating system well enough to guide a fit-out team through certification. It’s awarded by GBCI and requires a LEED Green Associate credential.
ID+C covers interior renovations and fit-outs of commercial spaces where the team has no scope over the building’s exterior shell or site: offices, retail stores, hospitality and other tenant spaces. The team installs the furniture, fixtures and equipment the space needs to operate.
Corporate tenants set sustainability targets for their workplaces, and design firms list their LEED APs when bidding. The ID+C credential shows clients you can run the LEED side of an interior project, from the scorecard to the documentation.
LEED AP ID+C VS LEED AP BD+C: WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU TAKE?
Both are LEED AP specialties with the same exam format, fees and Green Associate requirement. The difference is the type of project. BD+C covers new construction and major renovations, where the team designs the whole building. ID+C covers interior fit-outs, where the team works inside an existing shell.
Choose ID+C if most of your work is workplace, retail or hospitality interiors. Choose LEED AP BD+C if you work on whole buildings. Interior designers and interior architects usually take ID+C. Architects, engineers and contractors on new builds usually start with BD+C.
| LEED AP ID+C | LEED AP BD+C | |
|---|---|---|
| Covers | Interior fit-outs | New construction, major renovations |
| Typical projects | Offices, retail, hospitality interiors | Whole buildings |
| Typical roles | Interior designers, interior architects | Architects, engineers, contractors |

LEED AP ID+C COURSE & EXAM PREP FAQ
100 multiple-choice questions in 2 hours, at a Prometric test center or online. The passing score is 170 out of 200.
You must hold a current LEED Green Associate credential, or pass that exam at the same time, and be at least 18. Project experience is not required.
$350, or $250 for USGBC members. The fee covers one attempt; a retake is paid again in full.
Yes. Since June 30, 2026 the LEED AP ID+C exam is based on LEED v5, and this course is 100% v5.
The plan is 2 weeks: 30 minutes a day of lessons in week 1, then one practice exam a day with flashcards in week 2. Among Archiroots students, about 60% are ready within two weeks and another 30% within three.
Yes, through Prometric’s ProProctor. You need a quiet private room, a webcam, and a computer that meets Prometric’s requirements. Online and test center results count equally.
No. NCIDQ is the interior design qualification exam administered by CIDQ. LEED AP ID+C is a green building credential from GBCI. Many interior designers hold both.
Yes. The Green Associate tests general green building knowledge. ID+C tests applied knowledge of ID+C prerequisites, credits, thresholds and documentation, so even candidates who passed the GA comfortably need structured preparation.
