WHAT IS THE LEED AP O+M EXAM FORMAT?
The LEED AP O+M exam is 100 multiple-choice questions in 2 hours, no essays or fill-in-the-blanks. 85 questions are scored across 8 knowledge domains, and 15 are unscored pilot questions, unmarked and placed randomly, so answer everything. Delivered at a Prometric test center or online via ProProctor.

BD+C vs. O+M
Both LEED specialties require the LEED Green Associate credential as a foundational title to be eligible to take on the LEED AP exam.
LEED AP BD+C is for professionals that work on New Construction and Major Renovations. More suitable for architects and engineers responsible for the integrated design process and the selection of sustainable materials before a building is constructed.
LEED AP O+M is for professionals that work on enhancing operations, specifically catering to facility managers and operators. A professional is not limited to earning either or. Professionals aren’t limited to one specialty, you can hold both credentials by passing both exams, and many consultants do exactly that to cover projects from design through operations.
LEED AP O+M COURSE & EXAM PREP FAQ
You must hold a valid LEED Green Associate credential (or take both exams combined in one sitting) and be at least 18 years old. Project experience is recommended by USGBC but not required.
$350 standard, $300 for employees of USGBC member companies, if you already hold the Green Associate. The combined GA + O+M exam is $550. The fee covers one attempt; a retake means paying again in full.
Harder than the Green Associate, it tests applied, building-level knowledge of performance data, metering, recertification, and operational credits. Note the weighting: Energy and Atmosphere plus Indoor Environmental Quality make up 38 of the 85 scored questions, so preparation should lean heavily there.
Most candidates take 2–3 months with reference guides. With this simplified course, 30 minutes a day for a week, then one practice exam a day plus flashcards in week two, you can be ready in 2 weeks.
